I attend PLHS, is transportation provided to PL South HS?
District transportation is provided during school hours.

Will I be required to commit to NJROTC all four years of high school?
Students may enroll for one year or all four. The more you participate, the more you'll get out of it! First year students are encouraged to participate in unit activities in order to prepare themselves for leadership roles. Upper class cadets are given opportunities to assume positions of increasing responsibility in the administration and command of the unit. The instructors and the cadet staff are prepared to help any of our students in any aspect of the program, whether academic, military, or physical readiness.

Do I have to wear a uniform?
Yes, all cadets are required to wear the issued uniform for the entire school day once a week on the designated day.  You must be in your uniform by 8 am on inspection day. You will be inspected to see that the uniform is clean, complete and properly worn. Uniform inspections are graded, and become a part of your overall grade. Some NJROTC field trips also require uniforms.

What if I'm absent on the day of the scheduled uniform inspection?
If you are absent on the designated uniform inspection day, you must wear your uniform the next academic day (usually the Monday after the missed inspection) to receive full credit for your uniform grade. Five points are deducted for each day until you're  inspected.  Failure to makeup the uniform inspection before the next inspection day results in a final grade of zero for the missed inspection.

Can I keep my uniform?
No, the complete uniform is issued to each cadet at no cost and must be returned upon dis-enrollment. Uniforms are only  issued to the cadets after being professionally dry-cleaned. They must be returned professionally dry-cleaned to NJROTC or you will be charged $35.00 for dry cleaning. All issued clothing/gear must be returned or the student will be billed for the items.

Do I have to cut my hair?
When wearing the NJROTC uniform, all male cadets will need to comply with grooming standards that include haircuts limiting length and thickness.  Beards are not allowed.  All female cadets will need to follow grooming standards that includes keeping the hair off of the collar. Unusual hair color or styles are not allowed.

How much does it cost?
Uniforms are issued free of charge. The majority of our extracurricular activities and team activities are free. Cadets take part in fundraising activities to help reduce the activity costs of the program. Some field trips and events may have a fee.

Do I have to join an NJROTC team?
All NJROTC teams are extra-curricular, therefore not required.  However, team participation does increase self-discipline, leadership opportunities, and a sense of esprit-de-corps. The most successful cadets, in terms of leadership and scholarship potential, are members of one or more NJROTC teams.

What are the benefits of NJROTC for military service after graduation?
  • Cadets presenting evidence of successful completion of at least 3 years of NJROTC are entitled to advanced promotion to pay grade E-3 upon initial enlistment in an active or reserve component of the Army, Navy, or Air Force and pay grade E-2 in the Marine Corps.
  • Cadets accepted for enlistment, who provide evidence of successful completion of 2 years of a NJROTC program are entitled to be enlisted in pay grade E-2 in the Navy
